Concrete Finishes and Options
There are a few popular concrete finishes that are available for you to choose from according to your tastes and budget. When it comes to choosing a finish, you may want to consider what look will fit with your current landscape and curb appeal. Our team of concrete professionals can help you make the right decision as far as time frame goes, as adequate drying time will be needed to allow the concrete to dry before the finish is applied.
A slick troweled finish is created with a trowel when the builder is closing to exposed surface of the concrete. The concrete will need to be hard enough for the worker to stand and kneel on it without creating dips in the concrete. The time frame where this finish must be completed is a small gap so you may have to have multiple concrete workers going at it at the same time. Slick troweled finishes allow your concrete to be cleaned easily with a broom and mop. This finish can make the concrete very slippery when wet after cleaning or if it gets wet from rain or snow.
Broom finishing is very similar to slick troweled concrete. A specialty broom attachment will be used to close the surface. This tool is dragged across the surface to create a distinctive texture in the concrete. This method does not need to be closed by hand and can provide a consistent texture and look across the entirety of the concrete. This finish provides great traction while also being visually appealing. It can be tough to clean due to its rough texture, but power washing can make it simple work.
This finish uses different materials than the slick troweled look and the broom finished look. The aggregate is revealed through a process that slowly removes the cement from the exposed area. Exposed aggregate usually utilizes an array of different shaped and sized river stones and chipped rocks. These stones come in a range of colors and sizes. The process starts with a normal concrete pour, followed by the application of a chemical that is used to expose the rocks beneath the surface. The chemical agent will not affect the integrity of the driveway below as it is not deep penetrating and only affects the surface.
Our team creates many different kinds of stamped concrete looks that mimic stone, brick, wood and even other materials. There are many colors and dyes that can be added to create just the look that you want for your concrete finish. It can sometimes be an expensive process but the outcome is beautiful around pools, outdoor kitchens and for other purposes.
